Today 23rd January 2018 Executive Secretary Dr. Ally Simba met with PAPU Secretary General YOUNOUSS DJIBRINE at his office in Arusha. The two leaders discussed issues of common interest, including expanding cooperation between PAPU and EACO.
EACO Secretariat Visits the Ministry of ICT - RWANDA
The EACO Executive Secretary Dr. Ally Simba visited the Ministry of ICT - Rwanda (MITEC) on November, 1st 2017 to discuss the developments in the ICT sector and ICT projects and Programs in the EAC region. The Minister Hon. Jean Philbert NSENGIMANA assured the Executive Secretary of his support.
Dr. Ally Y. Simba is the Executive Secretary of the East African Communications Organisations (EACO). He was appointed to the position on 1st August 2017 for a period of four years. Prior to his appointment he had served as a Director of Knowledge Management with the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH). He has more than 16 years of experience in communication industry where he has worked as an Engineer with a mobile phone operator, as a researcher, as regulator, and as policy maker with the central government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Promotion of ICT through Local Content Development
EACO held its 22nd Congress on 24-28 July 2017 in Kampala Uganda. As part of the programme for the 22nd Congress Ministers responsible for ICTs/ Communications in the EAC members States together with ITU, ATU and PAPU discussed the developments and trends in the ICT sector in East African region and strategies for promotion of ICT innovation through local content development
It has been a singular honor for me to become not only a member of EACO but also
more so to now being trusted to lead the “Team of achievers” of the EACO ecosystem. I would like to
thank my colleagues at the EACO Secretariat, EACO members at large and all our affiliates for making
EACO continue to grow in leaps and bounds as its visibility now going global within just five years
since its inception back in 2012....
The East African Communications Organization (EACO) is a regional organization that brings
national ICT regulators, operators, services providers (in the telecommunication, broadcasting
postal sub-sectors) ICT training institutions and other stakeholders in the communication sector
Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.
The broad objective of EACO which was established in 2000 is to strengthen and promote
the five EAC Countries in the development and provision of postal, telecommunication and
services in East Africa and Headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda.
