NCA Somalia participates in East African Communications Organization (EACO) 29th Annual Assemblies and the Extra-Ordinary Congress, which took place in Nairobi, Kenya from 24th to 29th June 2024.
Nairobi, Kenya June 28, 2024, the Federal Republic of Somalia was admitted into the East Africa Community (EAC) by the Summit of EAC Heads of State on 24 November 2023 and became a full member on March 4, 2024. This milestone enabled Somalia's National Communications Authority (NCA) to participate for the first time in the 29th Annual Assemblies and Extra-Ordinary Congress of the East African Communications Organization (EACO), marking a significant development in regional cooperation and integration. This event, marks Somalia's inaugural participation in EACO event, symbolizing a significant step in regional telecommunications integration. Dr. Ally Simba, the Executive Secretary of EACO, officially welcomed NCA Somalia into the organization. He highlighted the importance of Somalia's inclusion, stating, "EACO is very grateful to have NCA Somalia present at this occasion and is looking forward to a collaborative environment through its membership to EACO. He further mentioned that the inclusion of NCA into EACO will not only facilitate the cross-border frequency coordination exercise but also will increase the digital economy for the region. Mr. Mustafa Yaasin, General Manager of the National Communications Authority (NCA), expressed his appreciation for Somalia's new role within the East African Communications Organization (EACO). "It is with great honor and privilege that I address you today at the 29th Annual Assemblies and Extra-Ordinary Congress of EACO. Being here among esteemed colleagues and partners marks a significant chapter for the National Communications Authority (NCA), as we step into our participation within this distinguished organization"Mr. Yaasin remarked.
He further elaborated on the transformative strides made in Somalia's telecommunications sector, which is characterized by rapid expansion, technological innovation, and increased accessibility. "The remarkable success of our telecommunications market, driven by strategic regulatory reforms and a surge in mobile connectivity, underlines the pivotal role of this sector in enhancing socio-economic development across Somalia," he explained. The 29th Annual Assemblies & Extra-Ordinary Congress of EACO serves as a vibrant platform for stakeholders to address pressing issues, share best practices, and explore collaborative opportunities that will significantly enhance the telecommunications ecosystem in the region. Somalia looks forward to contributing to the dialogues and initiatives, offering its unique insights and experiences that are expected to enrich the collective vision of a technologically interconnected and prosperous East Africa. The National Communications Authority (NCA) will vigorously work on integrating with EACO constitution and activities.
