The East African Communications Organization (EACO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen capacity building for regulators across the East African region.
This renewed partnership will focus on equipping regulatory authorities with the latest knowledge and skills in emerging technologies, including 5G deployment, artificial intelligence (AI) governance, and cybersecurity frameworks.
Under the MoU, EACO and ITU will collaborate on training programs, workshops, and technical guidance, ensuring regulators are prepared to manage the evolving telecommunications landscape. The initiative emphasizes enhancing regional cooperation, promoting best practices, and fostering innovation in regulatory approaches.
“The collaboration with ITU ensures that East African regulators remain at the forefront of technology trends, enabling a secure, resilient, and future-ready communications sector,” said a spokesperson from the EACO Secretariat.
The renewed MoU reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to regional integration and capacity building, reinforcing the foundation for a more robust and inclusive digital economy in East Africa.
